x-trap errors

some time ago i experimented with x-trap to create as big a list of possible error messages as i could, new error messages have been appearing though so now i have done it again, and here is the list of the ones i found and why you might receive it

one thing you will notice from the first three is that they all have the same text, “X-Trap engine update has been failed. Please, re-start the game.”. not very useful, the code_field is what interests us, i have added a comment to each image as a better message for what the error is

Remote Technical Assistance Update

we have converted! well at least i have so far and cruxiaer may be soon following

a program was brought to our attention called teamviewer which provides the same type of service that realvnc does, however it is completely free for personal use and requires almost no configuration, none for most situations

More Bot Image Testing

from another complaint about this image not appearing i got another idea to test out, the possibility that an initial failure to connect to the server to download the image will prevent the image being downloaded entirely and prevent the exchange button from also working

for those who are unaware, my network looks something like this:

this gives me a lot of flexibility in doing testing, especially network testing, because all my network traffic is routed through my linux box, which makes it easy to dump and analyse any traffic as well as use iptables on the machine to firewall traffic

Now providing remote assistance

for installation instructions, refer to cruxiaers guide, though in addition i can also provide a working key for the program if request it from me with your request for remote assistance and also i have one more step to be done after installing

when installation is finished realvnc will automatically startup running in service mode, by default it will be set to run on startup. you do not want this. to turn that off just click the “Configure” button on the main window and then uncheck the box shown in the image below and click “OK”

after this, right click on the VNC icon in the system tray and stop the VNC server, then start the VNC server in user mode (in the advanced directory in the start menu entry for VNC) and continue with cruxiaers guide

at the end when you are connecting to a new listening viewer (or add new client), for me you would input taulin.no-ip.com instead

i will not be entirely limited to providing support for GE related problems, if you are having other problems i may be able to assist with those as well, just make sure you inform me what the problem is when you contact me

Bot check image testing

after spending a period in prison on my new testing account i must say i feel some empathy toward those who are wrongly sent to prison because the captcha image fails to load, though of course i had reported myself and purposefully let myself be transported to prison, but that is beside the point

i gathered a small amount of information though, perhaps enough to help with the problem people are having, but i fear it may not be enough

Playing with VNC

ive had my play with realVNC, a handy piece of program that. i will add a post later on about how to install and set it up for allowing me to connect to you for those who want remote assistance from me but first a couple points of note

for the person running the server it would be quite difficult to stop the viewer (which would be me) to not do whatever he wants, the program is designed around administrators being able to remotely administer and control machines in which case you wouldnt want the user playing while you try to fix

x-trap blocks the viewer from doing anything other than watching while it is running. this is a good thing, but does also limit what can be done in terms of remote assistance

realvnc installs itself as a service that starts on startup by default. most users will not want this and should not want this. it is easy to turn off and i will show in my post how to do it later

Blocked Surf Tests

this is a problem a few people have experienced and so i had a bit of a look into it today

of the cases i know of the affected persons were always using AVG internet security, two cases that i remember the persons disabled the firewall and/or link scanner and the ability to surf was restored

AVG internet security is a paid version anti-virus but i use the free version which lacks the firewall and one feature of the link scanner component. i had sygate personal firewall pro v5.5 running to see if it would have any affect also. i used firefox 2.0.0.18 and internet explorer 7 for the testing

GE Technical Blog Begins

welcome to my GE technical blog

first things first, you will notice that my punctuation and grammar arent formal, it wont be. i will mainly be using my casual style of writing here

you will probably know me as Lt. Taulin from the GE forums, i am making this blog to go alongside the work i do on the forums, mainly technical support. the main point of this blog is the scheduling and results of work i am planning to do as well as providing technical information about the GE game client, most of which will be as discovered by myself

this will allow visitors and forum users to keep track of what i am doing or planning to do, and give them the ability to tell me off for slacking off

i may also post some stuff about events that take place in my GE playing, but i will not be posting crap about in my personal life that no one cares about…. much

so to begin with,this weekend i am planning to:

• look into the bot report/test captcha image not loading
• install, play with and prepare realVNC so i can provide remote access

ill also look at trying to give this blog a more GE-like look
